1 Rhythm of Poetry- What will your verse be?
Day 1= What IS poetry? Day 2= Is poetry important? Day 3= What makes a poem “good?” Day 4= The Effects of Poetry

2 By the end of this class. . . If we were to be attacked and our culture, as we know it, were to be wiped away (ruh, roh!) What 15 poems would you save AND WHY? You’re going to modify you’re “I Am” poem to make it match our ideas of what makes a poem “good” and how it can change the world. Think, “What will your verse be?”

3 So far. . . . What IS poetry? Why is it important?
What makes it “good?” How can poetry effect society? How can poetry effect people (individually?)

4 . . . Yesterday. . . What did we learn about the effect poetry has on society? Is it important to keep learning about the poets of “days gone by?” Explain. . . What did you learn that was interesting/new to you?

5 Today’s hook. . . While you listen to these two songs; keep a list of words/ideas that you believe might spark change The Power of Poetry How did this poet have an effect on people as individuals? How did, do you think, this poet had an effect on society?

6 TODAY :D Today you’re going to CONTINUE to use the computers to research famous poems and poets throughout history. What effect did these have on our world? Feel free to add your own poems and poets that, you feel, should be added to the list (and WHY) Each one of you will have 1 page that you are responsible for. We will “share out” every 7 minutes so STAY FOCUSED!! (This way, we cut the work by 1/3! ;D)

7 Helpful sites. . . USE THESE to save time!!

8 Time Line Now that you’re research is almost complete. You are to create a time-line of, what YOU believe are the TOP SEVEN MOST INFLUENTIAL SONGS/POEMS (and WHY?!) Discuss

9 CLASS time line! :D (If there’s time; can also be done at the end of class)
Here’s the tricky part; you are going to decide as a WHOLE GROUP, what are the SEVEN MOST INFLUENTIAL songs/poems (and why?!) If you had to pair each of the “modern” poets with an “old, boring” poet, which ones would you pair together and why? Which ones had similar effects on society? Explain! ;D

10 Last assignment for the camp! 
We’ve looked, this week, at what poetry is, why it’s important, what makes it “good” and how poetry can change the world. . . If we were to be attacked and our culture, as we know it, were to be wiped away (ruh, roh!) What 15 poems would you save AND WHY? You’re going to modify you’re “I Am” poem to make it match our ideas of what makes a poem “good” and how it can change the world. “What will your verse be?” Before we leave today, you’ll present BOTH!

11 For MY reflection. . . What did you enjoy about this class?
What would you do differently? What did you learn that was NEW to you? How can this class help you in your every day life (OUTSIDE of school?) What was your favorite poem that we discussed? Why? Did you have fun? Did you feel challenged? (explain) Is there anything that you would like to continue to study after this?? How will you change your “I Am” poem?
