1 POPULATION OF UAE APPROX.. 9,500,000 UNITED ARAB EMIRATES Area: 83,600 Kilometers Squared 24° 28' N, 54° 22' E

2 GEOGRAPHY The UAE, rich in oil and natural gas, has become highly prosperous after gaining foreign direct investment, funding in the 1970s. The country has a relatively high Human Development Index for the Asian continent and ranked 39th globally. Before 1971, the UAE were known as the Trucial States or Trucial Oman, in reference to a nineteenth-century truce between Britain and several Arab Sheikhs. The name Pirate Coast was also used in reference to the area's emirates in the eighteenth to early twentieth century. Relative Location- Border Saudi Arabia and Oman. Across the Sea is Iran. and it’s surrounding seas are Gulf of Oman an the Persian gulf. Physical Features: The mountains of the UAE, The Deserts ant the Valleys.

3 CLIMATE AND PERCIPATION The UAE has many Man-Made features. Some include an indoor ski hill. A 5 story shopping mall, A 5 star Airline, and their Palm tree and world islands, But in a class of it’s own, Stands Burj Al Arab. The world only 7 star hotel. This hotel is built on a man-made island with a parking lot on the other side, your only way over is by lime. Rates for the hotel range from $2,500.00 to $60,000.00 per night. All hotel rooms are 2 floors high. And the Royal Suite has a private Movie theater and a Golden elevator.

4 HISTORY OF UAE 1820 - Britain and local rulers sign a treaty to combat piracy along the Gulf coast. From this, and later agreements, the area becomes known as the Trucial Coast. 1892 - Deal between the Trucial States and Britain gives Britain control over foreign affairs and each emirate control over internal affairs. 1950s - Oil is discovered. 1 962 - Oil is exported for the first time from Abu Dhabi. Federation formed 1971 December - After independence from Britain, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujayrah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Qaywayn come together as the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sheikh Zayed Bin-Sultan Al Nuhayyan presides over the federation.

6 POLITICS The UAE is a democratic government with 3 party's. Philosophy: The Ministry of Economy is always keen to launch ambitious initiatives that enhance economic competitiveness and investment in the UAE, and under the Vision of our 2021 and to be in line with this commitment, the Ministry has launched the UAE Investment Map (UAEIM) project, which is the first initiative of its kind in the UAE that highlights the attractive investment opportunities across all the Seven Emirates. Education: Public education is free for male and female citizen children through the university level. Beginning in the academic year 2006–7, expatriate students may, for a fee, attend government schools. The UAE has one of the lowest student-to-teacher ratios (15:1) in the world. Police in UAE Have Bugatti, Camaro and farrire. The Dubai Police force was founded on June 1, 1956 in Naif (a locality in the Deria side of Dubai, with the first police station being known as 'Naif Fort') with only 29 members.

7 POLITICS/SOCIOLOGY Medical: Standards of health care are considered to be generally high in the United Arab Emirates, resulting from increased government spending during strong economic years. According to the UAE government, total expenditures on health care from 1996 to 2003 were US$436 million. According to the World Health Organitizion in 2004 total expenditures on health care constituted 2.9 percent of gross domestic product, and the per capita expenditure for health care was US$497. Health care currently is free only for UAE citizens. The number of doctors per 100,000 Social Welfare: All 800,000 Emirati citizens get free education and health care, and subsidized utilities. Emirati men can claim free land and no-interest loans to build homes. Other benefits include a $19,000 payment toward wedding costs.

8 ECONOMICS Economics: Petroleum and Natural gas Emirates NBD is the oldest bank and biggest bank in the UAE. Dubai money is called Dirham. foreign banks are taxed at 20 percent of their taxable income in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. The tax is restricted to the taxable income which is earned or deemed to be earned in that particular Emirate.
