3. WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED? MDG#1: Poverty continues to decline in many countries and regions such as Eastern Asia and China MDG#2: Some of the poorest countries have made the greatest strides in education: Sub-Sahara has made an 18 percentage point gain in primary school enrolment ratios MDG#3: Targeted interventions have succeeded in reducing child mortality: the number of deaths of children under the age of 5 decline from 12.4 million in 1990 to 8.1 million in 2009 MDG#4: Increased funding and control efforts have cut deaths from malaria: 11 countries in Africa have reduced malaria deaths by over 50%

4. WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED? MDG#5: Investments in preventing and treating HIV are yielding results: due to anti-retroviral treatments, AIDS-related deaths have decline 19% since 2004 MDG#6: Effective strategies against tuberculosis are saving MDG#7: millions of lives MDG#8: Every region has made progress in improving access to clean drinking water

PROGRESS IS STILL NEEDED, FOR EXAMPLE… The poorest children have made the slowest progress in terms of improved nutrition: nearly a quarter of children in the developing world are underweight Opportunities for full and productive employment remain particularly slim for women Being poor, female or living in a conflict zone increases the probability that a child will be out of school Advances in sanitation often bypass the poor and those living in rural areas Improving the lives of a growing number of urban poor remains a monumental challenge Progress has been uneven in improving access to safe drinking water

8. SELECT YOUR YOUTH DELEGATE TO REPRESENT YOU AT WORLD VISION’S REGIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE What is the Regional Youth Conference about? It is a place where youth from several different countries are gathering to advocate for your IDEAL MDGs. What do you want to see changed in your world? What are your dreams for your world? It is also a place where youth will determine if they want to create an on-going Regional Youth Network and what would that look like?

9. When? September 2012 – the final dates are still being determined Where? Istanbul, Turkey: Youth from Afghanistan, Israel (JWG), Lebanon and Pakistan Yerevan, Armenia: Youth from Albania, Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, and Romania Who? YOU DECIDE WHO YOU WANT TO REPRESENT YOU ! SELECT YOUR YOUTH DELEGATE TO REPRESENT YOU AT WORLD VISION’S REGIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE

10. DELEGATES FOR VARIOUS ROLES Youth Planning Committee These youth do not go to the Conference, but they help plan the event with other youth across the region via the internet Youth Journalist This youth will go to the Conference and report on what is happening during the event via facebook, twitter, and/or blogging. They will receive a one-day training before the event begins but they should have previous experience as a journalist (taking photos, creating videos, or writing articles for newsletters) Youth Presenter and Debater This youth will go to the Conference and present your ideas. They will participate in a debate about what the IDEAL MDGs would be for children and youth. They will also help determine what a Regional Youth Network could look like. They will be responsible to bring information back to you so that the entire group can continue to follow-up and advocate for your IDEAL MDGs Post 2015.
