Moffat Project 2008 – 2010 Partnership with carers centres and NHS 4 main care groups on 9 hospital sites Aim : to identify carers in the hospital setting, involvement of carers in discharge, improving support for carers. Carer Awareness Training to staff

Where We Were What we learned System very dependant on visible presence to generate response – not sustainable Need for carer identification to be part of patient pathway Identification of carer alone not enough to provide good outcome for carers Training needs to directly link to organisational priorities and outcomes

Why Use EPiC? Why not? The hard work is done Clearly links to knowledge and skills we require to be demonstrated Flexible Can be used in an integrative approach Core principles are relevant to all grades of staff Actively facilitates multidisciplinary approach

How we use EPiC Face-to-face session developed incorporating the Core Principles with actions for staff including links to local carers support KSF outline provides managers with framework Can be adapted to facilitate service improvement as well as training in one session
