4 Mandate From Mauro and Fabien Scope : The QA/QC here addressed mainly concern construction but not PCB QA/QC which is taken in charge by a different group. A link between these groups must be established. 1.Identify all individual components/parts to be labelled, recorded, individually tested and the parameters that should be recorded. 2.Identify checks needed during construction 3.Establish methods for the quality follow-up during the construction of the different parts at each construction site. 4.List the parameters and results of the checks to be recorded. 5.Establish the manual for the quality at the different phases of the modules construction. 12 First ideas (1/2) ATLAS NSW - QA/QC working group - J. GIRAUD (20/02/2014)12 Preparation of a list of the requirements to be fulfilled in each test. – From the WG on the requirements (planarity of the panels and positioning during the assembly). – From CERN rules (limits on the gas leaks? Other?) – Criteria for testing the mesh before gluing, for cleaning, for testing the tension. – Geometrical and mechanical tests on the single panel and on the assembled chamber. Methods and instruments for the test. – For planarity: CMM machine, laser tracker, others? – For Mesh test: ……….. – For gas leaks: decrease in time of a small overpressure? Leak test with a He based leak detector for instance? Gas sniffers? – etc.

13 First ideas (2/2) Definition of the tests needed during the different steps of the MM chamber construction. 1)Test of the components (thickness of : pcb for drift panels, honeycomb, frames etc.; test of the mesh, of other components) 2)Test during and at the end of the panels constructions (planarity, stiffness of the panel, mesh tension, deformations, …) 3)Test after the assembly (geometry, tightness of the chambers – gas leak, high voltage current leak, X-ray scanning ) 4)Final test (radioactive source, cosmic ray) 5)Test of sensors (B field sensors, alignment sensors, etc.) Test in the construction sites (gluing farm, assembling farm) and at CERN before mounting on the NSW frame.
