Evangelism is directly centered on Jesus Christ. He is the Evangel - the Good News. He is also the medium for receiving the Good News "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all to Myself“ (John 12:32) and He is the channel through whom the Good News is passed on to other people "I am the vine, you [are] the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). As His disciples, we are called to learn of Him; "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matt.11:29)

As we become learners, we inevitably become evangelistic. Indeed, His disciples are commanded to go, preach and make disciples. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”(Matt.28:19) Then we will have to follow His model of how to manage the Evangelistic process as a mission that is long-term.

To Enlighten people in various continents, who has no clue about their existing life purpose, or afterlife destination, with the GOOD NEWS about the incarnation of God, salvation of Jesus Christ and the awaiting Kingdom of heaven. (as stated by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III to Bishop Moussa)

To preach about Jesus Christ to non believers and introduce faith according to their education, age category and cultural background. To establish in the new countries a “Missionary Station” and local disciples to be the on-going engine carrying out future evangelistic activities and related social services.

Definition of Management: Is the act of running and controlling a project while dealing with people and situations in harmony to achieve successful results. Project: A set of activities with a defined start-point and defined end-state which pursues a defined goal using a defined set of resources The importance of managing Evangelism: Since we classify Evangelism as a project, then it needs to be managed in order to be able to achieve our objectives efficiently with the available resources.

Management Strategies: Is establishing the best structure to guide the Missionary in making use of various resources –human and financial – to pursue its stated mission. Aspects of Management: Marketing (External Environment) Operation – Structure and Procedures Human Resources – Managing people Financial Resources – Managing Finance & Accounts

Initial Marketing Process  Survey  Planning  Segmentation Ongoing Marketing Process  Social and relational marketing tactics (Communication with the segment)  Design marketing objectives (SMART) and their metrics (criteria) to measure against: S= SPECIFIC M= MEASURABLE A= ACHIEVABLE R= REALISTIC T= IN DETERMINED TIME  Evaluate missionary results based on the achieved objectives and information to amend the plan.

Thus, when missionaries are sent to a country, we need to segment this new market in order to efficiently launch the missionary activity Market segmentation is the process of classifying the market into distinctive groups with specific needs, characteristics and behaviors, (geographical, demographical, psychographic) which require different approaches. “These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: "Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matt 10:5-6)

Communication with Segments according to psychographics - personal needs and social interests  One-to-one - Samaritan Woman (Water)  One to crowd - Sermons (farmer’s culture)  Example of Relational Marketing  St Paul’s letters to the churches in the new destinations

Align (Plan): Mission is transformed into performance objectives  Intent, people to be saved  Design, setting up a plan to draw them near to God Deploy (Implement):  Implementation  Deliver Operate (Evaluate):  Evaluate  Improve INPUT TRANSFORM OUTPUT 1. NON BELIEVERS 2. SERVANTS 3. FACILITIES EVANGELISTIC PROCESS + RELATED OPERATION BELIEVERS

Why is planning necessary in a project? God Himself has a plan “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11) “For this is the will of God, your sanctification” (1 Thessalonians 4:3) Jesus taught us to plan before starting a project “Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?” (Luke 14:31)

Evaluation: Monitoring and assessment of performance Evaluation of different courses of action (the equipment the Church can use to reach its destination). Selection of the best alternatives Establishment of programs and procedures of the selected alternatives.

1. Orientation to Local Culture Servants should have pre-orientation about the new country with regards to: Politics, Social issues, Economic issues, Legal issues And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's" (Mat 22 : 21)

2. Selection of Local Servant Staff (Luke 9:57-58) Not appropriate for selection “…As they journeyed on the road, [that] someone said to Him, "Lord, I will follow You wherever You go". And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air [have] nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay [His] head". Selected Then He said to another, "Follow Me" But he said, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father". Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God".

3. TRAINING AND COACHING (Matthew 10:7-42) 3.1- Mission  “And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand’. 3.2- Detailed instruction  Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, nor bag for [your] journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food. Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. And when you go into a household, greet it. If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

3.3- Expected Obstacles and how to handle it  Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues.  You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.  And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in this city, flee to another.

3.4- Support and Promises (Building a Psychological contract) A disciple is not above [his] teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more [will they call] those of his household!. Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

3.5- Reward He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold [water] in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward"

4. Delegation and Building People’s Skills: Beginners in preparation “And He said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece.” (Luke 9:3) Development of responsibility in battlefield “And He said to them, "When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they said, "Nothing". Then He said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take [it,] and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.” (Luke 22:35-36)

5. Reporting and Follow up (Evaluation) “And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.” (Luke 9:10) When one of the crowd came to Jesus with his son who had a mute spirit and told him that His disciples could not cast it out… Jesus healed the boy, then took his disciples privately to explain to them why they failed to cast out the spirit. He evaluated them, then told them what was missing. So He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting " (Mar 9:29)

Setting Financial Budget “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has [enough] to finish” (Luke 14:28) Funding Donations from mother Church and individuals Development Through setting up local development projects to provide financial resources to continuously support the local Church and its services in the future. Managing Financial Resources (Accounting system) “Judas Iscariot… had the money box.” (John 12:6)

REMEMBER God is the One who  Works, Accomplishes, Supports, Directs We have a ROLE to do the best of our  Knowledge, Experience and Ability THEREFORE God’s Grace works with our efforts  “Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people…as I was with Moses, [so] I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:2-5)
