3 MEXICO´S LOCALIZATION
Mexico is a country located in North America and is bordered by the United States to the north, Belize and Guatemala to its south, the Gulf of Mexico to its east and the North Pacific Ocean to its west. The country's total area is 1,972,550 square kilometers (761,601 square miles), or nearly 3 times the size of Texas. Its capital, Mexico City, is located in the south-central part of the country.

4 TIPICAL FOOD OF MEXICO “Quesadillas,” “Tacos,” “Tamales,” “Enchiladas,” “Gorditas,” “Tlacoyos,” and “Sopes” are some examples of the delicious and famous “mestizo cuisine.” You can find these dishes in first class restaurants, outdoor markets, or food stalls, since the delights of Mexico City are available for all budgets. Popular drinks such as “Atole,” “Rompope,” fresh fruit-flavored water, and of course the most famous Mexican drink in the world, Tequila, are some excellent choices to accompany your meals and refresh your palate.

8 Modern Mexico is greatly influenced by its past
Modern Mexico is greatly influenced by its past.When the Spanish colonized the region 1500s,they brought their language, religion , music , and agriculture with them. The combination of these two cultures gave rise to another culture, the mestizo. Mexico blends these cultures.

Mestizos have both Spanish and indigenous ancestors.About 20% of the people of Mexico indigenous people, but Spanish is the first languagefor most mexicans.Some Mexicans also speak Native American languages.

Religion is important to the peolpe of Mexico . In the 1500s and 1600s, Spanish Catholic missionaries converted many Native American´s to Christianity and the Roman Catholic Church has been important to this religion ever since .

12 ROMANIC CATHOLIC CHURCH
The Catholic Church in Mexico is part of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope, Curia in Rome, and the Mexican Episcopal Conference. Being the dominant religion in the country for centuries, it has not been immune to criticism and sanctions from both citizens and the government.

14 CHANGES POPULATION PATTERNS
Most farm families in Mexico are poor. The poor farmers, who are known as campesinos, plow the land and harvest their crops by hand because they cannot afford expensive equipment.

16 ECONOMICS AND EMIGRATION
Some people in Mexico move to they towns along the border with the United States. There an work in factories owned by American companies, but located in Mexico because wages are lower than in United States. These border factories are called maquiladoras.

17 As people flood into Mexican cities and border towns, jobs become scarcer and some people have decided to emigrate. Emigrate means to move permanently from one country to another. Thousands of people have emigrated from Mexico to United States. Some of t6hese emigrants enter the United States illegally, a problem that the U.S. and Mexican governments are attempting to solve.

Fermin Carrillo is one worker who did just that. Because there were no more jobs and his parents needed food and medical care, he left his hometown in Mexico and moved to Oregon. He found work in fish processing plant and sends most of the money he earns home to his parents.

20 DAY OF THE DEATH Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.
