Photography has changed a lot since the early 1950’s. By the 1950’s the camera was becoming very complex and versatile. Although black and white photography was still most common, color photography was beginning to become more and more prevalent. Professional photographers were documenting everything from sports, to politics, to everyday life. Since then, cameras have become way more user friendly and higher quality. Now cameras are mostly digital, meaning they are much easier to use, and produce a better final product. Three of the major camera brands from then, and still today, are Kodak, Canon, and Nikon. These companies finally made cameras available to anyone. BRIEF HISTORY

SLR Single lens reflex 35mm SLR camera was the choice for many amateur and professional photographers This type of camera uses a mirror to act as the shutter of the camera This is an easy type of camera to use because the user sees approximately what will be saved by the camera CAMERA TECHNOLOGY

DSLR (1957) Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras use a digital sensor to capture the light elements of the photograph Picture made up if many pixels The more pixels, the higher the quality Allowed for quicker processing and analyzing of pictures Alleviated the wondering of what photographs would look like Still used today by most photographers TECHNOLOGY

Polaroid Camera(1963) Innovative new technology Allowed for printing of photographs instantaneously after being taken. The film was self developing Did not need any source of memory capabilities were Revolutionary for the time Cameras were becoming relatively cheap TECHNOLOGY

Autofocus (1985) Camera was able to focus itself on the subject of the photograph This was done by moving the lens electronically Sensors designed to realize when camera is in focus Many early versions did not have the same modern processing power, so they used a form of trial and error focusing TECHNOLOGY

Kodak introduces CD (1990) Kodak designs CD as a digital storage medium Used to store songs, pictures, etc. Still used today by many people Short for “Compact Disc” TECHNOLOGY

First Camera Phone Sold First phone with a camera sold in November 2000 Sold only in Japan Also contained a color display Sold by the J-Phone company TECHNOLOGY

Dalsa Ups the Quality The Dalsa company creates the highest definition sensor to be use in a camera Contains 111 megapixels Not for use by general population Used in very high resolution telescope for capturing distant stars and universes TECHNOLOGY

End of an Era In 2008 Polaroid announced its discontinuation of its Instant Film products Stated that they were no longer in demand Digital technology is so prevalent, this technology is not needed TECHNOLOGY
