September 2014: Professor Alice Gast appointed President succeeding Sir Keith O'Nions FRS President has focus on outward facing activities and development The Provost (Professor James Stirling) has responsibility for delivering and enhancing Imperial’s core academic mission - the pursuit of excellence in education, research and translation. Professor Stirling reports directly to the President; both the President and Provost oversee the College’s strategic direction. Professor Alice Gast, President, Imperial College London. An internationally renowned scholar in the field of chemical engineering, Professor Gast was formerly President of Lehigh University and Vice President for Research and Associate Provost at MIT.

Dr Roberto Rinaldi (Senior Lecturer) – April 2015 Post-doc & Junior Group Leader, Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung. PhD Chemistry, UNICAMP, São Paulo, Brazil. Research into the catalytic valorisation of lignin and cellulose by unconventional approaches, such as catalytic transfer hydrogenation, mechanocatalysis and solvent design.

May 2015: Ibrahim Daher wins Qatar Energy R&D ORYX GTL Student Award for Post Graduate Education. May 2015: Clementine Chambon awarded runner-up Althea-Imperial prize for female entrepreneurs. June 2015: Clementine Chambon awarded Echoing Green Fellowship. Undergraduates August 2014: Yehia Amar and Robert Hughes awarded EDF/Institut de France European foundation awards for tomorrow’s energies. March2015: Hannah Moran awarded a Salters’ Graduate Prize

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING We want to be able to take the best students to study at Imperial, irrespective of their ability to pay Our objective is to be able to fully fund from Departmental resources >25% of all PhD students in the Department Balance of students will be supported on fully-sponsor funded projects We are growing a Chemical Engineering Department Endowment fund (currently at £9 million) We are directing a significant fraction of available funds (has reached £1million in 2015) to PhD studentships for the very best students Applications have gone up by 100% in four years, quality up – want more! The Best Research: New Project Highlights DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING £1.5M to work on next generation hybrid solar panel technology to generate both heat and electrical power. EPSRC Funding. Collaboration with Imperial's Dyson School of Design Engineering and the departments of Physics and Chemical Engineering working with collaborators from the University of Glasgow.

The Best Research: New Project Highlights DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING Academic and industry collaboration studying biomass in a UK context. Imperial College London’s new Clean Fossil and Bioenergy Research Group has joined the Energy Technologies Institute’s (ETI) Techno-Economic Assessment of Biomass Pre-processing project. The project is a collaboration of industrial and academic partners led by E4Tech, commissioned and funded by the ETI.

The Best Research: New Project Highlights DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING SynFabFun collaboration: Imperial College London and the Universities of Bath, Manchester and Newcastle. Imperial will lead £1.5 million of a £4.5 million research initiative to investigate the use of new types of polymers and ceramics for use in membrane technology. EPSRC funded.
