Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Problem Statement Problems for HFHI –Surveys are given to homeowners only in certain areas to local or state affiliates. –There is no concrete way, currently, to show the benefits of the Habitat program to the community, both locally and nationally. –Homeowner information and responses must be securely collected, transferred, and analyzed to be in line with Habitat’s organizational mission.

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Methodology Proposed Solution –Having a centralized secure server database for survey information and homeowner responses –Homeowner ID’s will be requested from the server but will be keep in paper records as to ensure the security of the information being recorded. –The web-based program will consist of three main parts: A Survey Generator Homeowner Response Collection\Input Statistical Analysis

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Technical Solution The current program relies on a single centralized database to hold the surveys, responses, and a list of questions and answers. HFHI standards are to use Microsoft products. We have adhered to HFHI standards. We are using ASP.net and mySQL for this tool.

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Statistical Analysis The team is working with a Notre Dame team for the third phase of the tool. (Statistical Analysis) We are using Crystal Reports for this portion of the tool. We have one team member as a liaison to the ND team and is also the Crystal Reports integration member.

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Crystal Reports Fully integrated into Visual Studio 2003.net Small learning curve and easy of use Has own powerful selection language Built-in SQL and Graphing functionality Query any type of database through many different connection types Crystal Report Viewer Object has the capability to output reports to Acrobat PDF format

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY National, State, & Affiliate Needs National –Aggregate data by National, state, & local affiliate –Trends for each state and HFHI overall –Graphs and plots of data State –Access to the aggregate data sorted by each local affiliate in the state –State aggregate data –Trends and graphs for local affiliates and entire state Affiliate –Local affiliates need to be able to see Homeowners (by Id) –Each Homeowners answers for each question per generation –Aggregate Data for there affiliate in text and graphical form

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY User Interface System will be accessible via the Internet The final product will contain Crystal Reports and will be implemented using ASP.Net User interface will be as intuitive as possible to cater to the audience System will be full integrated into the report system for easy access.

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Next Steps The NDB team is in the process of integrating the statistical analysis. Waiting on a completed survey from a professor and Ohio State; He is generating the actual surveys that will be used by HFHI. Trip planned for April 22/23 to show progress to HFHI and get feedback.

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Problem Statement The purpose of this project is to help develop a regional office and restore building from pre- construction to post-construction, if feasibility of doing so is determined. This involves creation of pre-sketches, structure assessment, and blue prints. Also involved is cost analysis and budget determination.

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Project Methodology Meet with Doug Taylor to determine the needs and wants for the building. Separated what was necessary and what was a dream. Investigated some existing structures that have similar structures to what is to be designed. Researched and developed various designs that meet the buildings needs.

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Technical Solutions What the designs need to incorporate 9 small offices 3 large offices large conference room small conference room 2 restore bathrooms 2 main bathrooms small shower sleeping/first aid room Prefab area Warehouse Paint room Tool storage Utilities room restore

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY First Sketches Plan 3

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY First Sketches Plan 4

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Next Steps Find out exactly what HFH wants $$$ - estimate costs of building Raise money for project Find out about placement & zoning HVAC systems Existing or new building

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Next Steps These questions need to be answered: Can the HQ be built in parts? Where will we get the money? Where should it be built? How much will initial construction cost? What will monthly costs be after it’s built?

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Progress and Current Status Semester Accomplishments –Developed preliminary sketches –Determined use of the structure –Inspected previous plans to determine the shortcomings of them and how to fix these inadequacies

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Tutorials Team Richard Black – Team Leader Aaron Rueth John Hostetler Hannah Mugford

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Problem Statement Affiliates need a professional grade construction tutorial geared towards their volunteer base. Also wish to improve volunteer efficiency by giving them a solid background in their area of contribution.

Habitat for Humanity PURDUE UNIVERSITY Methodology for solving the problem Currently, the tutorials are an Internet-based multimedia tool. They incorporate text, pictures, and video to instruct users on how to perform basic volunteer construction tasks. Volunteer Quick-Reference Card
