Commissioning: are the diagnostics “adequate” for commissioning and operations problems? Will we be able to troubleshoot the undulator systems, and rapidly identify out-of-tolerance subsystems? Gain vs. z is an excellent all-purpose tuning signal SASE gain at long wavelength should not be very difficult SASE gain at short wavelength – beam travels 50m before gain is evident To K or not to K? To rollaway or not to rollaway? Is the maturity of the design known to the level of detail to justify setting the cost and schedule performance baseline at this time? Identify any open design issues that should be addressed prior to setting the baseline. Is the management team adequately structured for completing the LCLS design? Are there adequate resources and of the correct skill type to meet the needs of the project? Is the project progressing adequately? Review and evaluate the complete system design.
