3 IntroductionIntroduction The promotion process aims to advise the university on the promotability of a candidate and provide feedback to the candidate through the appropriate dean of his performance in research, teaching and public and university service. The university shall use the promotion process to encourage academic excellence and rectify mediocrity and marginal contribution in a fair and constructive manner. It is to be noted that the University is determined to evaluate the achievements of its faculty by comparison with international standards in all the fields of knowledge, which are relevant to the University program. The promotion process aims to advise the university on the promotability of a candidate and provide feedback to the candidate through the appropriate dean of his performance in research, teaching and public and university service. The university shall use the promotion process to encourage academic excellence and rectify mediocrity and marginal contribution in a fair and constructive manner. 7 ResearchResearch Quantified by number of units: A unit is a single author publication in one of the coming nine categories. 12 PromotabilityPromotability The candidate will be promoted to the rank of Associate Professor if his total number of points is not less than sixty (60) points, of which at least thirty- five (35) points must be from Research and Scientific Contributions. However, a second condition is that at least two of the three external reviewers (see Appendix A, Sec. 2.4) must recommend promotion of the candidate.
