6 Instruction Task Select 1-3 unedited video clips totaling no more than 15 minutes of instruction demonstrating: Instruction focused on targeted learning objectives Presentations and/or interactions with students that deepen student understanding Interactions among students that show teacher candidate facilitating deeper student understanding Instruction commentary 2-4 pages describing and reflecting on teaching strategies demonstrated in the clip(s)

12 Academic Language Attends to oral & written language
Specialized vocabulary of the discipline (e.g. lab report) Typical classroom language demands (e.g. discussing ideas) Vocabulary of processes and concepts (in the discipline) Identifying the language demands in relation to students’ current academic language proficiency Demonstrating how the candidates planning, instruction, and assessment support academic language development Must be shown in Planning task, as well as in either instruction or assessment task

15 Additional Information
A minimum score of 35 is required for Washington State certification Aligned with the Teacher/Principal Evaluation Project, or TPEP Results used by UWB School of Educational Studies for self-assessment and feedback

16 Looking at Examples Read Commentary prompts and answers 1a – 1d, if time 5a-5d. What do you notice that is taught and why? What seems important to address in planning Then look at Robric 1. What evidence do you see at a level 3? What evidence do you see above a 3? If you have time, repeat for Prompt 5

17 Selection of Content Read the content/lesson requirements for your discipline. Brainstorm with your group possible content choices. Record ideas.
