2. Modifier The word modifier actually comes from the word modify.
Modify means to “change something”.
Ex. The easiest way to modify how you look is to change your hairstyle or get a haircut.
Ex. Every year car companies try to make some small modifications in their car models.

3. Modifier, cont.
A modifier is a word or group of words, or phrase, that makes the meaning of other words or groups of words more exact.
MODIFIER + WORD= A more interesting description.
Ugly + monster= ugly monster
Red + blouse= red blouse
Young + children= young children

4. Modifier, cont. Modifier + word
The word is usually a noun and just gives a general description.
Add one, two, three, or more modifiers and that word changes into something very specific.
Modifiers can be adjectives, or adverbs

5. Practice Baby Breakfast
Modify each noun with a word that makes the noun more exact.
Remember words used to modify nouns are called adjectives.
Sun
Lamp
Shoes
car
Baby
Breakfast

6. Modifier Modifiers can modify a verb.
Adverbs are used to modify verbs.
Little Man wailed indignantly.
Mr. Andersen studied hard.
