1 English II PreAP April 27 – May 1 Monday Photo Reflection Due (to Mrs. Giles beginning of class, to be posted afterschool) Notecards for Seminar Explained Tuesday WNB#9: Reflect upon Photo Reflection Intro to Artful Essay Samples in class and on edmodo Wednesday Notecards Explained Draft Essays or Read Thursday Draft Essays or read Friday Seminar Reading

2 Notecards 6 Notecards must be prepared BEFORE discussion. This is your ticket to the discussion. No cards = no participation in discussion = no points awarded for discussion. Write your name on all cards and bundle them with a rubber band. Prepare the cards as follows: 1.Significant Passage #1 2.Significant Passage #2 3.3 Level 3 Questions 4.Choice Card: Title, Character, *or bring a prop* 5.3 examples of stylistic devices (page, example, device, effect/meaning) 6.Vocabulary: Five words defined, with sentence from book and page number. 7.Discussion Reflection to be completed AFTER discussion

3 WNB#9 Peruse the Photo Reflections in the hallway. Note at least five of the following (consider making a chart): Most attractive layout Favorite line of prose Favorite line of poetry Something surprising you learned about a classmate Something you learned about yourself in the process After reading these, think of three possible writing ideas (moments); jot these down.

4 Artful Essay Refer to Gary Soto’s “The Pie” Sensibility and Structure Begin brainstorming your essay 1 moment Diction-Imagery-Detail-Language Every word, every sentence, has purpose—literally and figuratively Structure is important Focus on purposeful structure and sense as you will be writing a companion to your essay to help with analysis.

5 Drafting PLAN: Create a new document in googledocs. Draft DUE Thursday, May 5.
