But we also look at the bigger picture to tackle the issue of strengthening families by focusing on school success and workforce development. What we do.

12 United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org School Success For every 50 children who don’t learn to read in kindergarten, 44 will still be struggling in 3 rd grade AND are unlikely to graduate. Research shows grades and absenteeism rates by 3 rd grade can predict dropouts.

13 United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org School Success 800 at-risk children receive academic support every day. 85% of these students are performing at grade level or better of the 600 at-risk students graduating from the Student Success Academy remain on track toward high school graduation 100%

14 United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org School Success at-risk middle school students received support to build positive academic and life skills to stay in school 209 800 children ages 6-18 read every day of the summer for 30 minutes

15 United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org School Success 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders not reading at grade level received tutoring to improve reading skills and were promoted to the next grade. 127 at-risk girls ages 8-15 built courage, confidence and character 600

That’s why we work to create successful workforce development programs with a strong network of community partners. We all win when there are jobs for working families

21 United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org Workforce Development high school students earned the national Career Readiness Certificate 275 NC community to be awarded the Certified Work Ready Community status which attracts and retains industry and strengthens the regional economy 2nd

25 United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org On behalf of the young children getting ready to enter kindergarten, the senior citizens that receive hot meals, the children that have a safe place to go during after-school hours and the summer months, and the students getting ready to enter the workforce – thank you for investing in what matters, thank you for investing in Pitt County.
