2 Day One: Monday, January 5, 2015 Quiet Question: Type One Prompt---You will be given two different images of different geographic features of Africa. You are to examine the photos and do the following: A) Compare and contrast the two photos. Write descriptions below. B) After examining the two photos, what summary can you make about the geography of Africa? Explain. C) Were these images what you were expecting when the teacher said Africa? Why or why not?

3 Day One: Monday, January 5, 2015 Class: As you can see, many of the geographic characteristics of the Middle East are also found in Africa. However, due to its size, there is greater diversity in geographic features. With this lesson, we will be examining each of these features and the impact they have on the continent. Class: The teacher is going to begin the Geography of Africa PowerPoint Lecture, and you should be taking notes in either PENCIL, BLACK or BLUE PEN in the provided graphic organizer. Content of the Notes: Description/Key Characteristics---What are the broad, general statements that describe this feature in the region? Examples/Historical Evidence----What are the specific examples to support the characteristics? This is where you would give names and descriptions of examples, statistics, and include primary source quotes. Impact/Effects---What impact does this geographic feature have on the region? How does it affect the people, economics, politics, diet, etc…? Visuals---This can be a printed picture from the PowerPoint or a drawing to help you remember this feature as a memory-study technique.

4 Day One: Monday, January 5, 2015 Homework: You will be taking notes from the photocopied supplemental reading provided for you. The notes should be done in EITHER RED, PINK, PURPLE, and OR ORANGE PEN. This will be checked for Class Participation Points in two days. Chunking of Reading Assignment Night One: Monday, January 5 Size of Africa---pg. 1 Sahara Desert---pgs. 1-2 Plateaus and Mountains----pg. 2 Rainforest---pg. 2 Sahara Desert Again---pgs. 2-3 Rainforest Again---pg. 3 Monsoons---pg. 3-4 Night Two: Tuesday, January 6 Mountains Again---pg. 6 Plateaus Again---pgs. 6-7 Lakes and Rivers---pg. 7 Deserts---pg. 8 Sahel----pg. 8 Savanna---pgs. 8-9 Natural Resources---pg. 9

5 Day Two: Tuesday, January 6, 2015 Class: The teacher is going to continue the Geography of Africa PowerPoint Lecture, and you should continue to take notes in the provided graphic organizer in EITHER PENCIL, BLACK, OR BLUE PEN. This is to distinguish where the information comes from. Homework: Finish the chunked reading notes. This will be checked TOMORROW for Class Participation Points.

6 Day Three: Wednesday, January 7, 2014 Class: The teacher is going to finish the Geography of Africa PowerPoint Lecture. Continue to follow the color-coding. Homework: Label and color-code the maps of Africa. This needs to be done by Tuesday, January 13, 2015. To do this, use the following resources: Internet Maps in the PowerPoint Lectures
