Overview Edmodo is the method through which teachers set homework. This is an online tool which will allow students to organise themselves with regards to their deadlines and they can also use this as a method of communication with their teachers. Teachers who organise clubs and extra-curricular events may also use Edmodo to relay messages and/ or pass on resources linked to this. As a parent/ guardian, you can use Edmodo to support your child’s learning and participation in school curricular or extra-curricular activities. Some teachers may offer some feedback/ marks on Edmodo for the homework tasks completed.
4
There are two main features which should be of use to you: Assignments: see what homework your child has been set and when they are due Notifications: see any messages sent by subject teachers to your child (these could be individual or group messages)
5
How can you support your child/ren? Ensure that you and your child/ren are aware of the whole-school guidelines on Edmodo (see slide 15). Join Edmodo via the parent code (your child can give you this). Read carefully this Parent PowerPoint which outlines how your Edmodo account differs from your child’s. Direct any Edmodo related questions to the tutor or subject teacher in the first instance.
6
1a. Create your Edmodo parent account a. Get your unique 6 digit parent code from your child: this is on your child’s Edmodo homepage (bottom left hand corner) b. Go to www.pfa.edmodo.comwww.pfa.edmodo.com c. ‘I’m a parent’ You do not have to share a Parent Account with another parent, relative, or guardian. Multiple Parent Accounts can be set up for one student. Simply use the same Parent Code found on the student’s account to create a second Parent Account (must have a different email address).
7
1b. Adding multiple children Each child has a different parent code. NB. If your child created two accounts by mistake and you linked them both to your Parent Account, you can easily remove the duplicate account. Each child has a different parent code. NB. 7. Mobile Learning available Mobile app available for iOS (iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch) and Android. Access Edmodo on any mobile browser at m.edmodo.com. Get updates and notifications on the go.

8. Guidelines we set students You should check your Edmodo account at least 3 times a week. You should read the instructions carefully for each homework (“assignment”). You should only “turn in” your homework if it is actually complete. Your Edmodo user account should be opened with a sensible name (i.e. full name and not nicknames). Your Edmodo profile picture (if you have one) should be a decent picture which does not cause offence. If communicating with your teacher on Edmodo, you need to consider the way in which you do this and do so politely (i.e. Dear Miss ….. Can you explain what we have to do again? Thanks.) Allow your teachers time to respond to your messages (your teachers are not expected to be online 24 hours a day).
