2 Essential Question: Why were slaves so important to the southern economy? How did owners try to control their slaves? How did slaves resist becoming completely enslaved?

3 Exploration into slavery in the United States This activity is to be done in pairs. Each pair is expected to travel together and work through the writing together to increase the quality of your answers You will bring your notebooks to each element of a slaves life. At each station you will pick up a piece of paper. Title that paper the title of the picture. Respond to the prompt #2 on the top 1/3 or the paper. Return to your seats and use the prompts on the board to take notes about a reading in the History Alive textbook(black). Don't hunt and peck for answers read the entire section carefully and discuss important points. Continue to go through all of the elements until you have seen all eight pictures and read all eight passages. Now, review your 8 slips of paper. One at time, create a colorful drawing to represent the learning on that paper. Once all eight are completed, tape them together as you would a quilt. Your final piece will be answer the 3rd essential question on a blank sheet and then create a drawing to represent your answer.
