3  Conducts instruction as outlined in Air Force directives. Prepares for instruction through group review and self- study. Prepares facility/classroom/auditorium for instruction.  Maintains lesson plans, textbooks, test and measurement devices, student workbooks, handouts and lesson aids.  Uses instructional aids and training equipment in support of lesson plan objectives.  Supervises, counsels, evaluates and advises students. Administers examinations, maintains student records, and documents student actions.  Receives training and evaluates instructors ( www.af.mil.)

4  To identify the characteristics of effective PME instructors.  Identify techniques for organizing and managing effective learning environments.  To identify characteristics of effective lesson planning.

5  Effective instructors should have high expectations for their entire class, set positive expectations to ensure each student believes they can excel 100% of the time.  To maintain an appropriate setting for learning, instructors must clearly communicate objectives of the lesson plan and what they expect of students.  Effective instructors should always exhibit enthusiasm in the classroom, should allow their students to be interested in class discussions and classroom activities at all times.

6  The following is expected from each new instructor and the criteria will include:  Job Knowledge  Lesson Plan Preparation & Use  Lesson Content  Delivery Skills  Communication Skills (Sample Performance Comments, 2014)

7  Scale of 1-5 › 1= Far exceeds job standards › 2= Consistently exceeds › 3= Meets › 4= Sometimes Meets › 5= Overall work does not meet the minimum job standards  Needs Improvement (NI), Satisfactory (S), Excellent (E)  Always, Usually, Sometimes, Rarely  Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree  Meets Expectations, Exceeds Expectations, Falls Below Expectations  Each assessment question is worth 1 point (At Your Business: Employee Performance Evaluation, 2015)

9  Lesson Plan Preparation & Use  Does the instructor use current lesson plan  Is lesson plan personalized  Does the instructor use the lesson plan to clarify subject matter  Does the instructor incorporate student interests into lesson plan  Does the lesson plan have three essential components: the objective, the body, and a reflection.  (NI) Needs Improvement,(S) Satisfactory, (E) Excellent (Robert D Gaylor NCO Academy, 2015)

11  Delivery Skills  Did the instructor’s delivery keep students engaged in the discussion  Did the instructor’s gestures distract students  Were the instructors gestures/movement well-timed and purposeful  Did the instructor’s delivery enhance discussion and help ensure comprehension  Was the instructor, stiff, awkward, lifeless, slouching, or stood too much  Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree (Robert D Gaylor NCO Academy, 2015)
