2 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Contents for this presentation
Introduction of the new SlimLine XR ITS2 Applications Which data to be monitored by the ITS2 What is new about the ITS2 How to set up the ITS2 to communicate into a controlling system : - Apparatus set up - Software set up ( Ekip connect ) A complete User Manual ( pdf ) Modbus set up / Protocol

3 Introduction

4 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Applications
Typical applications for the XR ITS2 will be : In Energy Management systems for analyzing and optimizing the energy consumption in commercial and industrial buildings Datacenters Hospitals Solar

5 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Intelligent monitoring in Solar
Delivery of 590 pcs SlimLine XR 250 A with ITS2 to the second biggest Solar Farm in England. Installed in 42 pcs 20 feet containers working as a complete feeding device with transformer 400V > 33 kV inside. Remote controlling and monitoring by MODBUS from London. To be set in operation 2015

6 SlimLine XR ITS2 : What is new from the first ITS ?
ABB Ekip connect is used for configuration, this is a well known software within ABB. Manual configuring of XR size is no longer needed since the ITS module detects the XR size when plugged in. Motor operated XR’s can be configured to automatically open at fuse blown condition. Simpler design of electronics The EFM works for both busbar- and terminal feed. In phase 2 of the project additional communication protocols will be awailable when intoducing the Ekip COM module used in ABB SACE Emax series of breakers

7 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Which data can be monitored
Features Voltage V : Voltage L1, L2, L3 Current A : Current L1, L2, L3 kW kW : L1, L2, L3 kVA kVA : L1, L2, L3 Cos fi Cos fi : L1, L2, L3 Power factor Sum kWh Fuse Status Fuse Status ( EFM ) Temperature Temperature at Terminal L2 Switch position On / Off Motor Control Motor control by bus Power / Energy /CosFI / Power Factor/ Max-Min measures Communication Modbus RS485 Protocol Modbus RTU

8 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Which data can be monitored
USB plug for connection via the T&P unit to the PC for configuration Power incicator ( alt. WINK led during configuration ) Communication indicator : Lit > OK Fuse Blown indicator Selection : Remote / Lit > Commands or settings of parameters are accepted Local / Dark > Commands or settings of parameters are refused

9 How to set up the XR ITS2

10 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Setting the feeding direction
XR1, 2 and 3 can be fed from the busbar side ( busbar feed ) or from the cable terminal side

11 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Setting the feeding direction
XR1, 2 and 3 can be fed from the busbar side ( busbar feed ) or from the cable terminal side By default the link is set in the position marked “Busbar Feed”.

12 SlimLine XR ITS2 : The EKIP T&P Unit
Important : The ABB T&P unit is required for connection to a laptop Order code : 1SDA066989R0001 This is well known tool for ABB’s service personel working with the ABB SACE products.

13 SlimLine XR ITS2 : The EKIP T&P Unit
Ekip T&P test and programming unit

14 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Download the EKIP Softwaretool
Download and install the Ekip Connect software from the Web. 1) Go to 2) Search Ekip Connect 3) Download the software 4) Unzip 1SDC200011X0000.zip and run setup

15 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Log in as Advanced user
Password : 0001

16 SlimLine XR ITS2 : 1 Setting the slave address
Factory setting : 247 Options : 1-247

17 SlimLine XR ITS2 : 2 Setting the Nominal voltage
The Fuse blown indicator will turn off when the Nominel Voltage is set

18 SlimLine XR ITS2 : 3 Setting the Power Direction
Busbar feeding

19 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Parameter settings
Basically, there are 3 parameters that’s important to have the ITS up and running in a system Set the «Nominal Line Voltage» according to the system voltage. If the line voltage in the system is 400 V, the Nominal Line Voltage should be set equal If not correctly set, the Fuse monitoring will not work. Depending on the feeding side of the XR switch, Busbar- or terminal feed, Power direction must be set accordingly Important for XR 1,2 and 3 :The jumpers on the fuse boards must be set accordingly to feeding direction. Give the ITS unit a unique modbus slave address. If necessary the communication parameters must be changed to correspond with system builders settings.

20 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Parameter settings
Setting of modbus slave adress A system with modbus communication will typically have several devices (ITS’s etc.) connected to the same line, a multi drop line. A master (sentral system) send a request containing an unique ID (modbus slave adress) to each device. The device with the correct address will respond and sent data requested by the master back. For that reason each modbus device/ITS must have its own unique slave adress. The adress can be in the following range : , default is 247. The modbus system will not work if two or more devices have the same slave adress, hence this configuration must be done prior to commisioning of the system. Modbus communication is a slow process. Even if the maximum number of devices connected to the same bus is 32, from a practical view no more than 16 units should be connected (depending on the ammount of data that should be read from each device/ITS). Default modbus settings are : Slave address : 247 Communication settings : 19200, E,8,1. Typical modbus system with multi drop line Master ITS 1 ITS 2 ITS 16

21 SlimLine XR ITS2 : Multiplug layout
Terminal Signal 1 24 VDC 2 24 V GND (0V) 3 RS-485 0V 4 RS (A) 5 RS-485 – (B) Conductor cross section stranded min. 0.25 mm2 Conductor cross section stranded max. 1.5 mm2 Conductor cross section stranded, with ferrule without plastic sleeve max. Conductor cross section stranded, with ferrule with plastic sleeve max. 0.75 mm2 The Multi plug connector has 2 connection points for each terminal, making it easier to loop the wiring between the XR switches.
