Wireless LAN onboard Compact Flash Card allows integration into standard W-LAN networks online data communication even in transport situation A wireless network installation in a hospital is required and also the ability of a PDMS to handle information in this way. An onboard Compact Flash Card for wireless LAN access allows the integration into standard W-LAN networks. With wireless connection a mobile workplace with online data communication even in transport situation can be realized. This requires a wireless network installation in a hospital and also the ability of a PDMS which can handle information in this way. At the moment no PDMS is able to communicate wireless with infusion management systems. A few hospitals in Germany and other countries are equipped with wireless installations for office, administration and also bedside networks. What is wireless LAN ? WLAN is defined in the standard IEEE x. The SpaceCom will support the part “b” which is operated in the ISM band with 2,45 GHz with 11 Mbps (Mega bits per seconds). The 2,45 GHz is released for health care round the world. Within an area of up to 100 m all device equipped with a wireless LAN card can communicate with the host. The connection to the wired network is done via so called access points. Sales Manual B.Braun Space

B. Braun SpaceCom – Features & Benefits Proposal data as a prescription list 1. A PDMS offers the possibility to prepare a prescription on drugs and infusions in a special menu. The prescription is done by a physician and activated by the care giver. 1a. The care giver activates the prescription at the described time and can print a list of drugs and infusion for preparation. 2. The drugs and the infusions can be prepared and labeled. This is normally done in a separate room. 3. The information from the PDMS are send to the SpaceStation and the pumps are waiting for activation. For a better and improved integration into clinical networks the SpaceCom will provide an expanded interface for proposal data. The interface allows to send a complete list of medication from a PDMS as a proposal to the B.Braun Space-Station. Prescriptions form the PDMS can be send and the care giver can select at the SpaceStation which drug to give with which pump. A pre selection of a pump in the PDMS is not necessary. With this function an alternative to the usage of barcodes is given and allows a better workflow without additional handling steps like barcode printing. Only one data base has to be administered. B. Braun SpaceCom – Features & Benefits Barcode interface supports two different types of barcodes Barcode interface: Code 128 This bar code sticker can contain drug name and drug ID, delivery rate, dose rate information like concentration, quantity of active agent, volume and time pre selection, look-up function Barcode interface: PDF 417 PDF417 is a two dimensional bar code it carries up to 1800 ASCII characters and allows to store a complete information set for a drug Look-up is a trigger in the bar code which activates the internal drug data base of a pump. The information from the bar code are linked with the information from the drug data base to expand the information. Other settings belonging to the drug are activated, like hard and soft limits, profile definitions, etc. A complete data set for a drug can be stored in one label. No link to the data base of a pump is necessary. Rate limits, bolus information and profile description are coming with the drug. Increase safety and convenience by working with barcodes. B. Braun SpaceCom – Features & Benefits Barcode interface Different barcode readers for the two types of barcodes are available to read Code 128 you can use the “normal” reader as used with the fm system to read the PDF417 a special image reader has to be used. A new process of working with barcodes is implemented. First the barcode has to be scanned and within 10 seconds the assignment to a dedicated pump has to be made by pressing the connect “C” button. If a SpaceControl is placed in the system the pump is automatically connected and displayed. Sales Manual B.Braun Space

B. Braun SpaceCom – Features & Benefits Universal Serial Bus (USB) The USB Slave allows to connect a PC or PDMS, and the USB Master to connect USB memory sticks or in future of other USB slave devices. With the USB memory stick it is possible to realize a data recording during the runtime of pumps. The documentation is started and stopped via the SpaceControl and creates a separate data record for each pump and per day. The following data are stored: Patient information, delivery information like rate and dose rate, handling steps as well as status and alarm information. This record files can be transferred to a PC and used for analyze or archiving. An other possibility is to copy the history file from every pump to the memory stick to read and store the data without using the service tool or any other equipment. The Universal Serial Bus was developed for Personnel Computer to offer a simple and unique interface for several devices. The USB standard supports two different types of devices, the USB Master and the USB Salve. USB Master or Host-Controller controls the network, administers the address and powers the network. Only one master in a network is allowed. Typically a PC is a host. To connect to hosts together, PC to PC communication, a Hub has to be used. A Hub is used to build up a network with the USB Slaves also. A USB Slave, in several device like printer, digital camera or keyboard, integrate can directly connected to a host or a hub. The connectors of the master and slave device are different. Direct connection with USB memory stick to the USB master port of the SpaceCom Direct connection of a PC or PDMS/CIS to the USB slave port of the SpaceCom Sales Manual B.Braun Space
