5 What is Aloevera - A Snip Note

6 What is Aloevera Aloevera doesn’t need any introduction as it highly popular and widely used in the market. when we are talking about aloe vera plants they are mostly found in the regions of Africa but can be traced World wide according to climatic conditions. There are around 250 Species of Aloe vera plants in the world. Aloe vera plant size varies from one inch to a highly complex and spread out colonies consisting of thousand of plants ranging from 2 foot diameter to more. The most commonly known species of Aloe vera plant is Aloe Barbadensis. Aloevera plants are basically tropical Succulent plants. They are cultivated in tropical or sub tropical regions where weather condition is not chilling. Some of the older Aloe vera plant even blooms, producing a tall stock covered by bright color petals making it a beautiful flower.

7 Continued… Aloe vera plants such as Aloe vera barbadensis are known for their medicinal use, various kinds of ailments and ointments are available for burns, rashes and cuts. They are use in various beauty preparations to give your skin a beautiful look. Aloe vera plant sap is a thick, mucilaginous gel. This gel has lot of medicinal use and this is the gel which is used in various ailments and ointments. Most important point to be remember while using Soil for growing aloe vera plants is the soil should be moderately fertile and fast draining as aloe vera plant it self contains lot of water and it will wilt if the soil is not fast draining. As aloe vera plants are very succulent in nature and contain lot of water in their leaves and roots.

8 USES OF ALOEVERA

9 Are Like Medical and Cosmetic Benefits
Used in number of lotions, creams, gels and shampoos. As diet supplement or directly. Improve general immune system and organism condition improvement. Control the stomach acids and maintain the balance in the stomach. Stimulates tissue Absorb nutrients and neutralizing toxic and bad elements Helpful for diabetic patients

10 Aloe Vera contains: Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12,Folic Acid, Niacine
Vitamins: A, B1, B2 B3, B6, B12 Contributes to well – being & health Supplies body with energy Strengthens the immune system Minerals : Calcium, Iron, Potassium Indispensable for the human metabolism Building of blood, needed for growth of bones and teeth Amino Acids: Lysine, Threonin, Valine etc “Building Blocks" of the body Repair tissues / carry oxygen throughout the body They form antibodies to combat invading bacteria & viruses Enzymes: Oxidase, Catalase etc Regulate intestinal activity. Assist in the breaking up of food elements Together, vitamins and minerals are called MICRONUTRIENTS (nutrients needed for life in small quantities). Our body can't make most micronutrients so we must get them from the foods we eat or from dietary supplements

11 Aloe and Diabetes Characterized by hyperglycaemia and alterations of glucose and lipid metabolism Lead to cell damage and elevation of reactive oxygen species Must control blood glucose and lipid levels Aloe shown to reduce blood glucose in diabetic rats Hyperglycaemia:abnormally high blood sugar Leads to blindness, renal failure and limb amputation

12 Aloe, Antimicrobials, and Wounds
When aloe is combined with other anti-microbials, a wound heals faster than with the anti-microbial alone. Possibly due to its moisturizing capability as well. Full-thickness excised wounds were created on the dorsum of Sprague-Dawley rats under anaesthesia. The wounds were treated with topical agents three times daily for fourteen days, then observed until healed. Used, saline contol, placebo (aqueous cream) control, silver sulphadiazine (SSD) cream 1%, SSD 0.5%, SSD 1% with Aloe vera, SSD 1% with nystatin, nystatin. Wound healing was delayed by saline and SSD. Nystatin and Aloe vera, when added to SSD, reversed that effect. These data suggest that a dry wound (saline) heals slowly. Infection control without delay of wound healing is most appealing and clinical trials are planned.

13 Burn Treatment Shows increased healing effects on 2nd degree burns
Anti-inflammation and wound healing promotion Vessels return to normal size quicker than with untreated burns * Throughout test, the vessels were more dilated and had increased postcapillary venular permeability

14 Products Gel and latex. Gel- leaf pulp or mucilage obtained from the parenchymal tissue. Latex- bitter, yellow substance obtained from pericyclic tubules just beneath the outer skin of the leaves. (otherwise called ‘Aloe juice’) These terms are often conjfused by consumers. Using a freshly cut leaf is thought to be the most effective treatment.
