Quiz Chapter 10 Why did Calpurnia called Atticus at work?
What is Heck Tate’s profession? What or whom was shot? What nickname did Atticus have as a teenager?
26
Symbolism Chapter 10 1. The rabid dog represents the town of Maycomb sick with it’s disease. 2. The rabies represent racism. 3. Mr. Tate is a policeman and he had Atticus shoot the dog. This represents the police handing over power to Atticus to keep the town safe. 4. Atticus took off his glasses to see better. This represents how Atticus had to remove society and look at the problem of racism in Maycomb without bias.
27
Symbolism Continued 5. The closed shutters represents how the people of Maycomb are hiding from their problems (racism) and are unwilling to help Atticus. 6. The one shot represents how Atticus has only one shot (the case of Tom Robinson) to end racism in the town. 7. The dead dog represents how even if Atticus ends racism with the Tom Robinson case, if people talk about racism it is just as dangerous if he hadn’t killed it.
