Simulation #7 Your church is in a spiritual tug-of-war between the young and old, the youth leaders and Elders. Design a plan that will progressively earn the trust of the Elders and allow your team to influence their thinking concerning the church and the direction it should go. The plan should be a two-year plan and it should include identifying each elder’s personality type and best way to influence each Elder. It should also include a vision for where you would like to see the church go and how you will reveal the vision to the Elders of the church. It should also include how you would lead the church now if the Lord gave your team that opportunity.

PLAN DE REY HAMBURGUESA Bridging the Gap Between the Youth and Elders for Meaningful Ministry

Drinks and Fries: The Extras that Attract The Garnishes: The Gifts of the Spirit which add Life to Ministry The Bottom Bun: The Youth, our current/future Workforce The Top Bun: Elders who Lead the Work The Complete Meal: The Properly Functioning Church The Elements of Plan de Rey Hamburguesa The Meat: The Work of the Ministry

Understanding the Elements The Meat – That which the Church is about: Ministry to Saints that they might be involved in the work of ministry themselves. A properly functioning Church will show-forth a healthy balance and appreciation for 1.Worship 2.Instruction in Bible 3.Fellowship among the Saints 4.Evangelism in relevant ways

Understanding the Elements The Garnishes – By no means being disrespectful to the Holy Spirit but to point out that when the Church functions without the Spirit, the efforts are bland and lifeless. The Church must learn more about the Power of the Holy Spirit, practice His presence daily and utilize His gifts if we are to be successful in ministry.

Understanding the Elements The Bottom Bun: Our youth – the future of the Church. For mere statistics sake we must focus on our youth. Our youth leaders must begin the process by emphasizing personal holiness, solid Bible education, current involvement in ministry and respect for leaders, especially the Elders.

Understanding the Elements The Top Bun – The Elders. We must win the respect and trust of the Elders by being consistent in our walk and ministry as well as by engaging them in times of prayer (individually and corporately) and social interaction. They will understand our heart and so will we theirs. Training our Elders? Carefully, prayerfully, humbly... try to get their peers to do it. They do have God’s work at heart too.

The Drinks and Fries: The extras that attract speak to the creative methods that we will use to do ministry. These will be governed by two principles: they must truly attract by meeting the needs of the people in relevant ways, but they should never contradict a clear teaching of the Bible. As methods they are not why we do ministry and should be replaced by more effective ones as soon as the need arises. Understanding the Elements

Planning the Meal: The Vision That we might be a Church known for its love for God (exhibited by our holiness) and love for our community (through our diverse and relevant ministries).

Planning the Meal: Our Goals That our youth will become more Christ-like, which will be seen in their: Personal Holiness, Participation in Ministry and Respect for our Leaders/Elders That we might assist our Leaders/Elders in their own personal development as leaders.

Planning the Meal: Our Youth Objectives 1.They will know how to read the Bible for themselves through a basic course in Bible interpretation 2.They will be taught spiritual disciplines and encouraged to utilize those disciplines on a daily basis 3.They will identify their spiritual gift/s by learning how to do a spiritual gifts inventory 4.They will develop and utilize their gifts in one ongoing activity and three special projects for the year 5.They will creatively design ministry projects to the Church and community 6.They will learn principles of relationship building and apply said principles to developing Godly relationships in the group and with the leaders/Elders. 7.They will participate in accountability groups, which meet at least once a month.

Planning the Meal: Our Elder Goals That our Elders will show forth the mind of Christ in their task of leadership of the body through: 1.Servant Leadership 2.Prayerful and Dynamic Ministry of the Word 3.Godly Concern and Counsel for the Believers 4.Strategic Maturity of the Saints for the Works of Service 5.Continuous Development of Ministry Opportunities for the Saints 6.Timely Relinquishing of Authority to Competent Younger Leaders

Planning the Meal: Our Elder Objectives By the Spirit of God we will seek to influence our leaders to achieve the goals outlined by: 1.Prayerful, personal and open concern and support for their welfare as individuals and as leaders 2.Promoting personal development opportunities like CLIMB Established Leaders conferences, seminars and training sessions 3.Providing ministry resources (books, tapes, etc.) in a non-threatening manner. 4.Presenting to them other leaders who have been successful in ministry
