Its collections are more than 410,000 copies, concerning with nine disciplines such as engineering, art, management and medicine. The comprehensive collections system is formed, which science, engineering and medical recourses play a dominant role with humanist, economic and management literature taking up a small percentage.  The library possesses altogether three electronic reading rooms and one multimedia classroom, which can provide more than 300 computer terminals for information retrieval. The Library adopts the entire open-shelf approach in the document circulation. It opens more than 84 hours per week for students and teachers. That is, a management system that from library curator, system librarian to subsystem administrators has been built in HUST Library. OUTSTANDING SYSTEM SILVER version of INNOPAC system is adopted by the Library. It supports eighty concurrent users and infinite web users. The system server is SUN fire V800 which has four Central Processing Units (CPU) and eight GB SDRAM.

Company Logo www.themegallery.com The Realization of Resource Sharing on Campus Network www.lib.hust.edu.cn  “No investigation, no right to speak.” After complete investigation, we decided to resolve resource-sharing problems start with reference rooms’ periodicals. A periodical retrieval system will be built in INNOPAC System where series of periodical information possessed by each reference room can be accessed.  It is a general method for sharing periodical information that periodical bibliographic items which have been preprocessed by catalogers are added into INNOPAC System one after another. However, it is a complex and inefficient work.  According to the investigation, we abandoned the general method and chose a simple way to realize resource sharing.

Company Logo www.themegallery.com The Steps to Publish Periodical Information of Reference Rooms 1 Various training projects must be on the top of the list, for the staffers in reference rooms should master the INNOPAC system very well. 2 The questionnaire about periodicals in reference rooms should be sent out, for it is a good way to collect periodical information. 3 According to the analysis of the questionnaire, new entries will be added in INNOPAC System; meanwhile, we choose 996 field to describe the information where the periodical come from. 4 For a hyperlink is added in INNOPAC system, users can access the Chinese and foreign language periodical collections in reference rooms on library’s website. www.lib.hust.edu.cn

If the bibliographies of books in East Branch Campus Library have been contained in INNOPAC system, these books’ information should be reflected in INNOPAC system. In order to distinguish the call number of East Branch Campus Library from Main Campus Library, the call number of East Branch Campus Library is named to begin with a special symbol, that is “ 东 ” in INNOPAC system. If the bibliographies of books which stored by East Branch Campus Library have not been contained in INNOPAC system, it is a good method that we download bibliographies from China Academic Library & Information System (CALIS). If the bibliographies are not existed in CALIS, catalogers, the librarians responsible for the catalogue have to deal with these books by themselves.
