Polarimetric parameter measurements: – estimation of the rain drop size distribution (RDSD), – hydrometeor classification.

Only one polarimetric Doppler radar available in the COPS region (Montancy). No Doppler radar in the Rhine valley. No radar coverage in the boundary layer. POLDIRAD in the Strasbourg region. Additional radars like NCAR’s S-POL and DOW’s (Doppler on wheels) are needed.
