1 JANUARY 30, 2012 Rutland High School

2 FCCLA FCCLA extends thank you to the English department and all students and staff who took the time to write a letter to Santa in support of Macy’s “I Believe” campaign in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We are delighted to report that we delivered 1,078 letters to Macy’s which equates to $1,078.00. Macy’s did receive enough letters to donate one million dollars to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Rutland High School FCCLA Chapter has delivered over 2,500 letters since participating in the program for the past three years.

3 Blood Drive Thank you for supporting the American Red Cross and The Beta Club in our second blood drive of the year. We helped to save over 300 lives! The next blood drive is March 23 rd. See you there!

4 Parking Students cannot park on campus without a permit. Those parking in the lot closest to the gym where the trailers are located, need to park in the student lot. The parking lot where the trailers are located is for staff only.

5 Star Student / Teacher Congratulations to Dennis Adams. He is Rutland’s 2012 STAR student. Dennis has named Mrs. Hema Keerthi as his STAR teacher. Congratulations to both Dennis Adams and Mrs. Keerthi for their commitment to education.

6 DECA News Rutland DECA participated in the Region 10 Competition. The following 6 students placed in their event and qualify to move on to the DECA State Competition in February. Erika Coons – 2 nd Place Marketing Management Emily Juhls – 2 nd Place – Retail Merchandising Tyler Tolbert – 2 nd Place – Business Finance Luke Eady – 3 rd Place – Sports and Entertainment Mrktng Ashley Johnson – 3 rd Place Advertising Amanda Brown – 4 th Place – Buying and Merchandising Congratulations to these students!!

7 FBLA News FBLA members attended and competed in multiple events at the FBLA Region Leadership conference at Wesleyan College. The following students placed in events at the conference: Marketing – 3 rd – Ciara Haugabrook, Erika Coons, & Brittany Maynard Business Ethics – 3 rd – Mariah Barnes & Danielle Sanders Impromptu Speaking – 3 rd – Sydney Spight Word Processing I – 4 th – Sydney Spight

8 FBLA News The following students will advance to the state competition in March: Business Calculations – 4 th – Mark Christmas Economics – 10 th – Mark Christmas Business Math – 4 th – Brandi Slocumb Accounting I – 8 th – Brandice Maynard Personal Finance – 7 th – Felicia Ashley Way to go Canes!!!

9 MCJROTC Congratulations to the JROTC Rifle Team once again for winning their match against Spencer H.S. of Columbus. They also placed 3 rd out of 16 teams. Their record is now 4 wins, 1 loss. The high shooter for RHS was Justin Baxley with a score of 277. Other members contributing to the win were Ben Gilbert (275), Yishmael Aguilar (266), Sam Kozee (266). Other members are Ralph Cameron and Daran Hall.

10 Literary Competition Congratulations to the following students who have been chosen to represent RHS this year. Female Dramatic Interpretation: Kourtney Crumpton and alternate Sydney Spight Male Dramatic Interpretation: Savonce Lawrence and alternate Johnathan Moore.

11 Congratulations Zonesha Davis was awarded with the Wendy’s Heisman, athletic, academic and leadership scholarship. She was selected from a group of ten ladies from the state of Georgia. Way to go!!!!
