3. Dr. Dwight B. Waldo Waldo was first named Western State Normal School Principle on April 1, 1904 Four years later he was named Western State Normal School president and served as President until SEPTEMBER 1, 1936 "He was a man who had all the attributes of a successful businessman and all the qualities of a day dreamer — a realist and an idealist harmoniously blended," according to the WMU historian James O.
