EuCARD/COLMAT Project: Validate the existing LHC collimator studies, (done using Sixtrack) with the Merlin program Saturday, June 27, 2015Roger Barlow

Who Roger Barlow, Adina Toader, Hywel Owen, Rob Appleby, Suliman Alshammeri Links to: ILC collimator studies using Merlin (mostly wakefields) Background simulations for the experiments (particularly LHCb) Saturday, June 27, 2015Roger Barlow

Why? The more Monte Carlos, the more credible the predictions. Merlin is in C++. Easy to add or modify behaviour and features of particles and components 6/27/2015Roger Barlow

Progress so far 6/27/2015Roger Barlow

Working on Implement scattering in collimators (as in C Bracco and R Demolaize’s theses). Coulomb angular scattering and energy loss, plus elastic/inelastic/Rutherford Scattering collisions. Include material types, properties, collimator lengths Extend to 10 7+ particle simulations using grid computers. 6/27/2015Roger Barlow

Later possibilities Can use Merlin to study wakefields, different materials and positions. Look at beam losses, halos generated and backgrounds (though this is not full shower) Develop generally useful and flexible tool for collimator simulations to answer any questions people may have 6/27/2015Roger Barlow
