1 Using SAS and JMP to check if x and y ~ N Normal option generates Shapiro Wilks Stats

3 Shapiro Wilks Stat for x, price charged

4 Look at p value. If p value >5% then likely that data follows a normal distribution.

5 Do the same for y (here quantity sold, SAS variable name Q)

6 Double click here

7 Again compare reported p value to alpha of 5%. If greater than 5% cannot reject null that Q “follows a normal distribution”.

8 In JMP Open table

9 I have exported SAS workfile to JMP

10 Click analyze

11 Select distribution

12 Highlight P and Q (the two variables being correlated in this problem)

13 Finish selection by clicking on columns box

14 Stack diagrams horizontally

15 Go to fit distribution Select normal

16 Right click on fitted normal

17 Select goodness of fit

18 Will find same p values found on SAS
