Objectives, Activities and Assessment

Anyone feeling frazzled?

Prior knowledge This is the prior knowledge you will need to know to complete the following activity: You have a third grade class. The children range in ability level from kindergarten to fourth grade. They were last taught a lesson in alphabetizing the week before. They demonstrated the ability to alphabetize words using the first letter only.

Your mission if you choose to accept it Teach the students alphabetizing to the third letter…. What do you need to look at first before you even begin to plan Turn to a partner and come up discuss what prior knowledge the child would need

Objectives What do you want the children to learn? What do you want the child to accomplish?

Keep it simple No more than two objectives

Sample Objectives  The students will be able to multiply one digit by one digit with 90% accuracy given 100 problems within three minutes.  The students will be able to demonstrate mastery of the one and two times tables.  The students will understand how to alphabetize to the second letter.  The students will demonstrate understanding of the four seasons of the year.

Activities This is what YOU are going to do or the children will do to accomplish the goal or objective Write the activities in such detail that a substitute teacher could follow everything listed

Activity You want to teach alphabetizing to the second letter –USING YOUR 6PM CLOCK PARTNERS, BREAK INTO GROUPS AND DEVELOP ONE OBJECTIVE, ONE CREATIVE ACTIVITY AND A METHOD TO ACCESS WHETHER OR NOT YOU WERE SUCCESSFUL IN SUCCESSFULLY TEACHING YOUR OBJECTIVE.

Alphabetizing Did you take into account how to individualize to meet the needs of the children in ELS or the students who are non-readers?

Examples….. The teacher will provide the students with a math worksheet of 100 problems and set the timer for 3 minutes. The student will complete a worksheet of 100 problems and will complete the problems, given a 3 minute probe.

Questions and Content Write the questions you want to make sure you ask, preactivity, during activity and post activity. Script it out so that if you had a substitute this day, that person could follow your activity and questions.

Objective, Activity or Assessment 1.The teacher will hand out seven paperclips, two erasers and four crayons. 2.The students will collect the worksheets and return them to the teacher for grading. 3.The teacher will grade the worksheets. 4.80% of the students score at or above the 75 th percentile on the worksheet in order for the teacher to move to the next introductory lesson. 5.Most of the students will raise their hands when they hear the correct answer. 6.Students will understand how to alphabetize to the third letter.

Assessment I will analyze the data from the worksheet. 85% of the students will have successfully completed the worksheet of 100 one digit multiplication problems within 5 minutes with a score of 95 or higher. I will look to see if most students have been able to alphabetize to the second letter and correct responses will be measured by a show of hands.

Data Think of assessment as data collection How do you KNOW the children accomplished the goal? How did they do on the worksheet?

Samples of assessment How do you know the students reached the goal? An analysis of the timed multiplication probe…did most of the children reach the goal? Their scores will tell you. Evidence based..formal and informal

Assessment

Assessment and Reflection When you assess the learning that has taken place on your lesson, how do you plan on looking at the data, using the data for future planning and helping the students master the information taught in the long term? What will YOU take out of the lesson with regard to your own personal future teaching?
