10. Search tabs  Advanced Ovid Search is the default search tab. This has the equivalent functionality as the search in the previous version of Ovid  Basic Search, new to Ovid SP, allows natural language searching. Use with caution! It may not provide results that are as useful as those found in Advanced Ovid Search  Find Citation can be useful if you are searching for a specific journal article

11. Limits  Clicking on Limits allows a search to be limited in one or more ways, such as English language and Publication Year

12. Additional Limits  By selecting limits followed by Search, the limits will be applied to the last search

13. Additional Limits  Clicking on Additional Limits provides many more ways to limit a search

14. Search History and Combining Searches Select Search History to reveal previous searches

15. Search History and Combining Searches  Previous searches are listed  Combine searches using AND or OR  Remove unneeded searches using Remove Selected  Save Search History  Select RSS to set up alerts

16. Truncation and Wildcards Use either * or $ for truncation Ensure Map Term to Subject Heading is unticked

17. Personal Ovid accounts  This is accessed at the top right-hand side of the OvidSP search screen. If you do not have an account already, creating one is very straightforward. It is recommended that you use your Athens username and password.

18. Virtual notes  Once you have logged into your Personal Account, yellow virtual notes will appear on each result. Simply click on one of these and a pop-up box will appear. Add text, save then close the screen

19. Virtual notes  The records which have notes will appear with black dotted lines as shown in the example above. Be aware that it is not possible to group annotated records together

20. RSS alerts  RSS alerts can be set up easily using the icon as shown above  They can be set up as email alerts also

21. Summary  Use Advanced Ovid Search for in-depth search.  Use Basic Search with caution  Truncation is now * or $  Use Limits or Additional Limits to limit your search  Click on Search History to reveal Search History  Simple Boolean (AND and OR) can be used within Search History. Advanced Boolean can still be used in the Enter Keyword or Phrase field  Use your Personal Ovid Account in order to save search history, set up RSS feeds or to use virtual notes
