2 Valentines Day is the traditional day for lovers in many countries. It is celebrated on February 14.

3 Nobody is certain about the origin of Valentines Day as a day for lovers. It corresponds to the Saint’s Day for St. Valentine.

4 St. Valentine lived in the Roman Empire in the third century A.D. At that time, Emperor Claudius the Second had forbidden marriages.

5 Valentine continued to perform marriages in secret. He was caught and executed in A.D. 270.

6 During the Middle Ages, people began to use the day as a celebration for lovers.

7 Today, it is customary for children to exchange Valentines cards at school. Some also give gifts of flowers or candy to their Valentines.
