5 Version number Usually found on: program startup screen on the disk in the manual on the package. Also can be found in “About…” (under Help on Windows or under the Apple on a Mac)

6 Copyright date When the program was published.

7 Required hardware Hardware is equipment (printers, disk drives etc.). Is any special hardware necessary to run the program?

8 Peripherals Hardware devices (printers, etc.)

9 Required Software Is a particular program (for example, QuickTime) also necessary to run the program?

10 Back up policy All purchasers of software are legally allowed to make one back up of a program. Is there a stated policy in the manual (ie. a backup comes with the program, statement saying you can make one copy or nothing at all).

11 Copy Protection Physically preventing copying disks.

12 Documentation A manual or any printed instructions on how to use the program.

13 Memory requirements How much memory (Kilobytes or megabytes) is necessary to run the program? RAM Disk space-hard disk

14 User Friendly Can a novice use the program and figure it out using the manual? Does the program or manual treat users as idiots or use "computerese" jargon?

15 Disk Operating System The first program that is loaded into all computers. It checks to see what is attached to the computer (hardware) and prepares the computer to receive other programs and use the hardware.
