3 In the presence of the self- centered religious leaders of his day, Jesus declares, “I am the good shepherd.” He contrasts himself from them by referring to them as “hired hands.”

4 Indeed, they were concerned only for their own safety and satisfaction. Jesus is the opposite because he owns and loves his sheep.
