Doubling to quadrupling of energy efficiency for cars, homes, appliances, and lights. Increased efficiency was a result of mostly energy smart products not energy smart users.

1979, President Carter urged Americans to conserve energy. He maintained that the energy crisis was the moral equivalent of war, and in this war, people need to conserve energy to win.

Can products be made even more efficiently, or are we close to the efficiency limits for many products?

 An energy unit saved is an energy unit earned.  A 10 percent reduction using a carrot or a stick.

If an additional $3 of tax was added to the price of a gallon of gasoline what actions could be taken to reduce use?

What problems might a $3 a gallon gasoline tax have on Americans?

How might the billions of dollars of gasoline tax revenue be spent?

What problems do you see with gasoline rationing? How might these problems be resolved?

How would the American public react to eliminating the use of gasoline for sporting and recreational use?
