42 Bruce Boehl, Todd Clementoni, Chris Hollen, Kellen Hurst Rose-Hulman Civil Engineering Department Background: Location: Rockville, Indiana - a small community in the heart of Parke County Importance: Residents must travel over 30 miles to Terre Haute or Indianapolis for shopping needs Construction Cost & Schedule: Goal: Efficiently estimate the construction cost and schedule in an effort to minimize both quantities Solution: Estimated a total cost of roughly $950,000 excluding store-specific interior design costs, that would take approximately 120 work days to complete, based on 5 major construction phases Stormwater Design: Goal: Effectively and efficiently manage stormwater runoff generated from all roof and paved surfaces Solution: Designed a 5-inlet stormwater management system consisting of 330 ft. of 14-inch PVC pipe and 290 ft. of 10- inch PVC pipe to adequately support the 11 cfs runoff flow from the site associated with a 10-year, 5-minute design storm, producing a time of concentration of 3.83 minutes Site Design: Goal: Maximize size and number of stores on the 2.25 acre site Solution: A single 260 ft. x 60 ft., 12 store, wood-framed shopping mall accompanied by an 87-space parking lot and 30 ft. wide loading area that all meet requirements set forth by the local municipal code Foundation Design: Goal: Adequately design a foundation to support all loads applied to the structure Solution: Designed a 3 ft. x 3 ft. continuous footing resting on a silty clay loam soil type with an overconsolidation ratio of 11.5 kips/sf to support factored dead, live, snow, and wind loads that combine to equal 2.82 kips/ft ROCKVILLE REDEVELOPMENT SHOPPING MALL PROJECT Rockville Terre Haute Indianapolis Solution: Redevelop the site of an existing dilapidated garage/gas station (shown in photo below) into a vibrant, family-friendly 12-14 store shopping mall (shown in center figure) Client: Trigent Development, LLC Sanitary Sewer Design: Goal: Effectively and efficiently manage all sanitary wastewater on site Solution: Designed 275 ft. of 6-inch PVC pipe to support an average daily wastewater flow of 2450 gpd, a peak daily wastewater flow of 9800 gpd, and an average flow velocity of 6.63 fps to connect the sanitary wastewater from the building to the surrounding system Site
