7 Oahu Oahu is known as the Gathering Place because lots of people live here, in fact 874,300. Diamond Head is probably the most recognizable natural landmark. ’Iolani Palace, in downtown Honolulu, is the only royal palace located in the United States. Hawaii is also the only state that grows coffee. Oh, did I forget to mention that we’re out in the middle of the ocean? Hawaii is actually the most isolated population center on the face of the earth!
