2 Articulation  Is the term used to describe the process that facilitates the transition of a student from one institution to another  Or from one level of education to the next with minimum duplication of coursework  Lansing Community College will engage in partnerships and articulation opportunities whenever this will enhance students’ success and increase access to advanced educational opportunities

4 How the Articulation Process Works You (the instructor) and your school express an Interest in articulating with Lansing Community College Motivating factors for doing this:  Benefits the students academically, emotionally, financially  Provides students with encouragement, guidance and motivation  Helps build your high school enrollment  Helps teacher develop a viable and up-to-date-curriculum

5 How the Articulation Process Works  Check out LCC opportunities lcc.edu/academics/courses  Review LCC programs that lead to degrees at LCC  Review specific LCC class syllabi and recommended textbooks to determine if any of your classes would qualify  Either as they are currently being taught or with a bit of sensible adjustment  Select classes that would help student move easily from high school to their college program  Contact LCC staff with questions regarding the courses and curriculum you are targeting

6 Create a Table Once you have determined which courses might qualify, create a table based on the template provided by LCC List at top of page:  LCC course code, LCC program name, number of LCC credits  Articulated high school course title, number of hours the class meets (seat time)

7 Create a table Include in the table:  A column listing the LCC Course Outcomes (Learning Objectives) from course syllabus  A matching column identifying the tasks to be completed in the high school class that lead to mastery of the LCC course outcomes  A check-off column for Meets Outcome and a column for Still in Progress

8 Also Include  List the textbooks and other resources used in the high school class

9 In Your Table (Articulation Task List)  Create and write specific tasks that students would complete based on your own course outline (including state requirements where applicable) that would lead to mastery of the aligned LCC outcomes.

10 How the Articulation Process Works Remember: The student must complete 100% of the tasks you list to receive credit for the corresponding LCC Outcome AND The student must pass your course with a grade of 80% or higher

11 How the Articulation Process Works Next Meet with or contact appropriate LCC faculty (Program Coordinator) for review and or assistance as needed. Then Submit final task list to the LCC Articulation Coordinator for review, final approval and signatures.

18 State Wide Articulation Agreement This provides considerable savings of time and effort for individual instructors and high schools who would otherwise need to develop their own Articulation Task List for every LCC course for which they seek articulation And go through the approval process on an individual basis

19 State Wide Articulation Agreement We are now in the process of working out the final details to put this process into place for next year. If your school participates in this program, your students could easily qualify for articulated credit in LCC Horticulture and Landscape Architecture classes in 2007.

25 The Statewide Articulation Process  Is intended to streamline the articulation process  Making it easier for school districts and teachers to help students earn LCC credit for coursework they successfully completed in high school.

26 Questions and Answers Is my school automatically enrolled in this statewide articulation agreement? No, each school district must apply individually by contacting LCC and submitting the appropriate forms

27 Questions and Answers  How soon can my school apply to participate in this statewide articulation program?  We hope to have the process completed for statewide articulation of these Horticulture and Landscape Architecture courses in Spring ‘07  Therefore, Spring ‘07 high school graduates will be eligible to receive LCC credit – for course work earned in high school.

28 Questions and Answers How many articulation credits can a student earn at Lansing Community College? A maximum of 16 credits

29 Questions and Answers How much does this cost? It is totally FREE! Neither the student or the school incurs any cost

30 Questions and Answers When is this credit received? Is the student required to complete his/her first semester at LCC before receiving the articulated credit? Once the student becomes a registered LCC student, and the appropriate paperwork is signed and filed, the student receives credit for the appropriate LCC course(s)

31 Questions and Answers How much of my time will this process require? Do I have to attend any special meetings, etc? Much of the work has been done for you. No special meetings are required. You will be the one responsible for making sure that all the learning outcomes on the task list are meet. You will be required to sign-off on the completed Student Proficiency Checklist

32 Questions and Answers How long is this Articulation Agreement good for? It will be reviewed annually by LCC and will also require annual review by the secondary schools

33 Questions and Answers Can I vary from the original Task List? You can add tasks to the list but you cannot remove tasks.
