3 Unlocking Knowledge, Empowering Minds About MIT OpenCourseWare › MIT OpenCourseWare  Free and open educational resource (Syllabi, lecture notes, videos, psets, exams, Java applets…)  No credit, degrees, or faculty access  1.5 - 2 million visitors/month (including ~10,000 HS students)  Publishing 1800 th course in November › OCW Highlights for High School  “Gateway drug:” showcases OCW’s rich, interesting, level-appropriate gems  Not a separate site so much as a detailed guide to existing OCW content  3 main components: 1)Intro courses (traditional and non-, including “real” prereqs) 2)AP + Engineering content mapping 3)ESP!

12 Unlocking Knowledge, Empowering Minds Where ESP Comes In › Faculty advisory board really motivated to include great ESP content › Focus on “long” courses (HSSP, Junction)  “Short” courselets (Splash) might come later › Goal: ~ 5 really excellent long courses by November › Will likely have funding for some video capture

13 Unlocking Knowledge, Empowering Minds ESP & OCW: Working Together › What OCW can do for ESP:  Free publicity for ESP  Recruit teachers to participate  Take care of permission forms, IP concerns  Type up notes, help organize materials for teachers  Build actual site  Coordinate AV – will likely have funding for some video capture  Minimize extra work for teachers and directors › What ESP can do for OCW  Identify teachers to recruit, and help contact them  Integrate OCW content-capture into program training, info, reminders  Help remind teachers to deliver content, and recruit students to take notes  Enjoy fame and (less likely) fortune, plus warm ‘n fuzzy contributing feeling
