GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 3 Mission Operations Architecture LAT Instrument Operations Center * From the GLAST Operations Concept Document

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 4 Mission Operations Functions Summarized from Ground Systems Functional Allocation Team Study

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 5 Tasks Completed Tasks completed –Participated in GLAST Operations Working Group (GLOWG). Developed draft description of LAT operating modes. –Supported the GLAST Data Products Working Group. –Supported teleconference meetings of the Integration, Test, and Calibration working group and the Environmental Test subcommittee. –Supported the LAT chartered task force on operations issues related to the South Atlantic Anomaly. –Supported subsystem preliminary design requirements reviews –Supported balloon flight EGSE and operations development –Revised schedule and cost estimate to support 6 month launch slip –Developed EGSE integration and test flow

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 6 IOC Development & Test Flow

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 7 Evolutionary EGSE Development

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 8 EGSE Development & Test

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 9 Development Plans Plans for next quarter –Complete level III IOC performance specification –Complete IOC operations concept –Continue to integrate EGSE with IOC by developing consistent EGSE level III requirements document and operations concept –Begin trade studies on hardware and software to support IOC operations concept. Continue research into existing non-development item (NDI) and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software for EGSE and IOC use –Support development of EGSE and operations for the balloon flight –Revise IOC schedule and cost estimate to accommodate the 6-month launch slip

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 10 IOC Organization

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 11 EGSE Organization

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 12 Labor Loading Staffing for IOC/EGSE includes hiring profile of 1 FTE staff in FY02, FY03 and FY04 until stabilizing at 5 FTEs in FY04.

GLAST LAT ProjectDOE/NASA Review of the GLAST/LAT Project, Aug. 14, 2001 Scott Williams 14 Issues & Mitigations The development schedule for the Mission Operations Center (MOC), Spacecraft, and ground communications segment lags the LAT schedule by approximately 12 months. –Performed detailed ground systems functional allocation study and developed level II requirements document –Hold IOC PDR with LAT but allow IOC CDR to match schedule with remainder of ground segment Resources in FY01/02 are limited. –Leverage EGSE development by using same organization for development and planning for evolution to meet IOC requirements. –Use Systems Engineering resources to support systems level planning and design integration.
