Old Technology Technology has changed over the years from pencil, paper and chalkboard to the smartboard, iPad and other portable technologies. Many classrooms are no longer equipped with these outdated materials, but instead are focusing on the ways students can stay connected to the classroom from home. We focused on the change from the old technologies to the new technologies found here at the University of Arizona.

New Literacy Focus: Technological Literacy Reasons for a change in educational technology: New innovations in computing technology A need for technology that can accommodate large class sizes An increasing global importance on the internet as a learning tool A more technologically adept generation of teachers and students Definition:Technological literacy is the ability to effectively use technology to communicate ideas, access information and utilize programs effectively to achieve learning goals.

iPads and Tablets The iPad and other similar tablets have started to replace both pencil and paper as well as text books at the UofA. Advantages include an "all in one" textbook, as well as the extensive app network. Like many types of technology, tablets can be very expensive and might enforce the view that technological literacy is only for the wealthy. The iPad is available at Apple Store, with prices starting at $499.Apple Store Other tablets are available through stores like Best Buy.

SMART Boards SMART Boards were introduced 1991 and were first installed in Tucson classrooms in 2006. They give the same capabilities of black board but with all the advantages of a computer. SMART Boards SMART Boards are available to any school system and to the public through online stores, as well as education supply stores. Price ranges from $1000 -$5000 For more information on classroom uses and a positive review of SMART Boards, check this out!check this out!

Online Learning D2LD2L is one form of the technological literacy of online learning at UA. Online learning is revolutionizing the classroom. No longer are papers needed, now you can turn them in online, and get your feedback online. Costs to copy and print papers are being cut, and the only major cost is the maitenance and upkeep of the website.

CONCLUSION There are numerous amounts of new literacies in the classroom. In our presentation we illustrated just some of the technological literacies that have made schools different from in the past. All these technological literacies can be found throughout University of Arizona classrooms, emphasizing that revolutionizing how "class" is done, is happening right here in OUR classroom. Through these new literacies, learning goals are being achieved through a more effective venue. What new literacies may sweep the classroom and revolutionize how "class" is done in the future?
