6 Major Email Functions ► Create Email ► Reply (the good and the bad) ► Forward (the slippery slope of forwards) ► Attaching Files ► Making Hyperlinks (plain text vs. HTML emails) ► Methods to send (and their functions)  To: - Email recipient  Cc: - Carbon Copy. Used when you want to send a copy of an email message to someone other than the main person you are writing to. Usually used for business purposes.  Bcc: - Blind carbon copy. A field in your email program that will send a copy of your message to a person without the primary recipient knowing.

Used when you want to send a copy of an email message to someone other than the main person you are writing to. Usually used for business purposes. ► Bcc: - Blind carbon copy. A field in your email program that will send a copy of your message to a person without the primary recipient knowing. The email address of the BCC recipient will not appear on the resulting email, and any replies to the message will not be sent to them.

10 Creating a folder ► Click on folders  Create Folder button ► Name folder (e.g., sent)  In: Z#  Type: Mailbox ► Sent folder will be used to store copies of sent emails from this account

11 Changing options ► Click on Options  General Settings ► Change Session timeout to 40 minutes  To prevent system from closing on you while you are working in it ► Change Sent folder setting from “Disable” to “Sent”  System will store sent email copies in sent folder

12 Email forwarding ► Click on Options  Mailbox Management ► Under Forwarding:  At “Enabled:” option, select Yes  At “Forward To:”, enter non-NIU email ► Warning about forwarding – If size allowed in either mailbox is full, email will bounce  Email is the primary method of communication for this class

13 Composing email ► Click on Compose (main menu) ► Standard recipient functions (To:, Cc:, Bcc:) ► Standard Subject line and message body ► Attaching files  Click “Browse” button next to “Add file” option  Find file on computer and select  After selecting file, you must click “Attach” button  This may be done for multiple files
