Wireless Sensor Network
2
A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a wireless network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or pollutants, at different locations wireless networkautonomous sensors temperaturesoundvibrationpressure
3
In addition to one or more sensors, each node in a sensor network is typically equipped with a radio transceiver or other wireless communications device, a small microcontroller, and an energy source, usually a battery radiotransceivermicrocontrollerbattery The size of a single sensor node can vary from shoebox-sized nodes down to devices the size of grain of dust The cost of sensor nodes is similarly variable, ranging from hundreds of dollars to a few cents, depending on the size of the sensor network and the complexity required of individual sensor nodes

smart bandaids
5
Function a smart band-aid or wireless temperature system which is placed on the patient’s temple to continuously monitor the patient’s body temperature and send the information wirelessly in real time to the nursing station
6
a sensor that continuously measures patient heart rate and blood oxygenation sending the data wirelessly to the nursing station.
7
remote sensors that promote healing as well as read and transfer information on blood characteristics to computers, which analyze the information in real time
8
“smart” bed sensors that trigger an alarm at a nursing station when a patient moves outside of a programmed space to alert the health care team when a patient may be in danger of falling
10
Consists of – an A/D converter – microcontroller – ultra low power wireless transceiver – integral antenna system – power scavenging circuitry – thin battery technology
11
The band aid consists of the following layers: Embedded sensor layers A flexible insulating printed circuit layer that contains the electronics A battery layer using flexible thin batteries ( rechargeable or primary) An antenna layer where antennas connected to the wireless transmitters will transmit the data to the receiving base station in the patient room Final covering on the outer part of the band aid system, which may include an energy scavenging layer which could consist of flexible solar cells
