4 Tigers start out the season 4-6 December 27, 2003 NO. 10 SAINT JOSEPH'S TOPS PACIFIC, 73-55 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- The Pacific men's basketball team suffered a 73-55 loss at No. 10 Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Dec. 27. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 4-6 on the season. Saint Joseph's improved to 9-0 and continued its best start since 1964-65.Pacific trailed by eight, 35-27, after a highly competitive first half. The Tigers remained within striking distance throughout much of the second half as well. After Saint Joseph's built a 44- 33 lead with 15:29 remaining, the Tigers went on a 9-3 run to cut the deficit to 47-42. The Hawks built their lead back up to 59-47 with 6:52 remaining and put the game out of reach with three-pointers by Dwayne Lee and Chet Stachitas in the closing minutes.Sophomore Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) led Pacific's offensive attack with a team-high 15 points in the game. Junior Tyler Newton (Burbank, Calif.) was the only other Tiger in double figures in scoring with 11 points.Delonte West poured in a game- high 22 points for Saint Joseph's.Despite outshooting the Hawks.412-.391 on the afternoon, Pacific was plagued by 18 team turnovers.Pacific returns to the Alex G. Spanos Center for a non-conference contest against Cal State Stanislaus on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 7 p.m.
