1 Mike AlbrowProject X, Antiprotons November 16-17 th 2007 1 Anything Else? Mike Albrow  Just a lateral thinking exercise, keeping topics not covered in Dan’s poster.  No other filter, i.e. inclusion does not necessarily mean that the topic is interesting enough, or even feasible (!?).  Maybe all can be discarded; maybe some will strike a chord.

2 Mike AlbrowProject X, Antiprotons November 16-17 th 2007 2 Static properties of (CPT): mass (through antihydrogen), classic, already discussed. : magnetic moment ( “ fine structure” in spectra) : electric dipole moment EDM (prob. impossible.... for p is < 0.54 e –23 cm) Anti-neutrons: SLOW: charge exchange (not at threshold)... magnetic traps (using magnetic moment). Piping. Annihilation when wavelength >> atomic sizes. Gravitational acceleration, lifetime measurement FAST: charge exchange; “monochromatic” beam. p “atoms”....photon radiation pre-annihilation ? Strong interaction at large distances Then annihilation to hadrons for spectroscopy {gg}, { } (a) hadronic final states (b) non-hadronic final states Above rest annihilation, among others:

3 Mike AlbrowProject X, Antiprotons November 16-17 th 2007 3 Antiprotons as tools: Nuclear physics: annihilation (nuclear surfaces), different (A,Z) Solid state physics: annihilation ? crystals? channeling? Medical applications? annihilation also probes matter. Radiation therapy studies (probably not treatment)
