2. The Mission  The mission of BHA is to provide transitional housing for individuals and families with housing needs in an atmosphere of hope, respect, humility, and patience. Emphasis is placed on goal setting and developing life skills and self-esteem.

3. BHA Background Information  Purchased and renovated four properties, which contain 13 living units  Properties maintained by volunteer help  Participants learn practical skills such as:  Parenting  Budgeting  Living skills to live on their own

4. The Current Plan  The need:  A new database to replace a complicated, unfriendly database system.  The plan:  To create a user-friendly database that can organize the participants, volunteers, and donors  Search functions  Macros  Manual

5. Working System  2 desktops, 1 laptop  Pentium III’s  Windows 98  MS Access 2000  Dial-up internet connection  We do not need additional money to complete this project

6. Primary Goal  View all of a record’s basic information on one screen  Fields include: date entered, date last modified, first name, last name, organization name, 2 address lines, city, state, zip, phone, fax, e-mail, type (individual, business, church, non-profit), involvement type (donor, active volunteer, board member, participant, former board member, former participant, inactive volunteer), age group (adult, youth, child), congregation, recent contacts (phone, visits), and a misc. comment field  Be able to quickly search records by last name, organization name, city, congregation, and zip  Have a user-friendly way of doing mailing labels and creating mail-merge documents

7. Secondary Goal  Track volunteers: be able to enter date of volunteering, type of volunteer work, and # of hours  Track Donations: Enter date and amount of gifts, show a running total for the current year and lifetime

8. Stretch Goal  Develop some buttons to easily generate common queries or reports  list of donors and total donations for a certain time period (current month, current fiscal year)  list of volunteers and total number of volunteer hours for a certain time period  list of donors by congregation  Be able to create a group in Outlook Express of the e-mail addresses in the database
