2 Background Dr. Quinn  Asst. Professor, Division of Medical Education Director Improvement Education Center for Clinical Improvement Vanderbilt University Medical Center Quinn ensures the Quality of the GME (Graduate Medical Education) Residency Programs Accreditation for these programs, the institution, and their residents is a major task involving a large amount of time usually lots of paper System needs improvement

3 Project Proposal 65 Residency Programs (each has their own coordinator) All these programs must meet ACGME (Accreditation Council for General Medical Education) requirements 780 Residents in these programs The activities between programs must be coordinated Each program must meet multiple standards, documentation, scheduling, and evaluations in order to be Accredited The Institution itself must also be accredited

Dr. Quinn wants a Technical Solution to unify the programs Her requirements of the solution  Ability to share common accreditation requirements across all programs  Being able to customize in order to meet specific needs of each program  Ability to communicate changes to all programs  Web-site links  Project Management capabilities (scheduling, task list, …) Wants common interface for all residency coordinators

5 Some Specifics Each of these coordinators must:  State Goals  State Objectives  Pass Evaluations  Track Residence hours  Track accreditation requirements for the program and each of their residents  Internal Reviews (every year and a half, between accreditation)  Reaccredidation (every three years)

6 An Example Programs are all at different levels of organization Thoracic Surgery is one of the most advanced; they are currently using MS Project Not really an effective solution for them and not a solution to be applied to the whole system
