Overview What is ISVC? Why do we need ISVC? Features Basic Underlying Information User Types Product Demonstration

What is ISVC? ISVC is an open-source learning management system (LMS). o Developed for the Illinois Board of Education. o Also developed for the School Districts in the Southern Illinois Region. ISVC integrates functions of an LMS with simulations from Molecular Workbench and PhET. o A simulation is a interactive animation featuring Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology concepts. o Simulation Example: John Travoltage.

The Purpose of ISVC The purpose of this project is to create a learning environment where teachers can prepare supplimental material that allows students to take a hands on approach to their education. o ISVC integrates open-source simulations from different sites onto one localized database. o ISVC offers a simple interface. o ISVC allows teachers to integrate quizzes and homeworks with the lesson. o Open-Source alternative to other LMSes.

Basic Underlying Information Developed using Drupal Content Management System. o Further development done in PHP, CSS, JavaScript, and HTML. Connected to a MySQL database. Runs on CentOS server in the CS Department. Users connect through the site by a browser.

ISVC: Features Classes o Quiz/Homework Creator. o Content/Announcement Creator. o Classes can be public or private. o Content posted to class will appear on a centralized page. Simulation Database o Users can search through simulations. o Simulations are tagged with key words for easy sorting and searching. Different Interface for Students and Teachers.

Users Teachers o Create Classes o Create Quizzes/Homework o Automatically or Manually Grade Quiz Results o Post Content to Classes o Create Student Accounts Students o View Content Posted to Classes o Take Posted Quizzes Admin (Administrators) o Create and Manage Users General Users o View Simulations o Search Through Simulations
